Why Essential Oils in Makeup?

Why Essential Oils in Makeup?

There are so many wonderful things about essential oils, and I could wax lyrically for a long time about their benefits for your skin, physical health, mental and emotional state and rebalancing your body. But I'll do my best to curb over 23 years of enthusiasm into one blog post!

Did you know that 1 drop of peppermint oil can be equivalent to drinking to 28 cups of peppermint tea? Essential oils are very potent and impactful on the body, and they can have profound effects on our health.

I'm Clinical Aromatherapist by trade. What I take for granted about essential oils I often forget that others don't know!
They are for me one of the fastest acting agents for support and transformation for the body physically, but they also have a huge impact on our mental and emotional state.

When you apply a drop of essential oil undiluted on the skin it absorbs straight into the skin and quickly enters the bloodstream. That means it doesn't have to go through any other process (like digestion) for the body to be able to uptake and use the oil to help balance, or repair the system. There are huge numbers of studies and published papers on essential oils in clinical settings and they are no longer just a "woo woo" product but have clear science behind them.

Essential oils are so powerful because their primary function is to help bring the body back into homeostasis. And it targets what ever is causing the imbalance impacting the body, mind or emotional state, and fills in the gaps needed to bring it back into balance.

Being an aromatherapist I am a smell snob. I have a sensitivity to synthetic chemical aromas and most makeup doesn't smell great (and that's after they have added perfumes to the products to mask the smells). And as much as I love how I look after I have applied makeup, I want the application process to also be a beautiful nurturing experience without introducing harmful toxins to my body.

So that's the advantage of having my own cosmetics brand, I get to change the game. By adding essential oils in my makeup I offer a multidimensional benefit to you the wearer.

Some perks of essential oils in your makeup

1. They smell amazing and can transform your day.
Your sense of smell is such a powerful part of your brain. It connects to the limbic region of your brain. This area is strongly linked to emotions, trauma and memory.
We use it as a part of our survival instincts, for example, smelling food before you eat it can tell you if there is something "off" about it and if it is safe to be consumed.
But on the other hand smelling a rose or a flower can make you shoulders relax, calm your nervous system and ground you.
I often observe people smelling an oil and exclaiming "that smells just like my grandmother's house"!

But you might hate the smell of an essential oil, and that can be linked to a traumatic experience. If when you experienced a trauma the aroma in the air (or in a perfume someone was wearing) at the moment of trauma, you will subconsciously link that experience with the aroma and your body can have a negative response to a smell without you even knowing why it is that you dislike it.
Aromas can help change your mood in seconds, so  take a deep breath when you use a Catherine B products and let the oils work their magic!
2. They offer therapeutic benefits to the body.

Frankincense oil is one of my personal favourites and you will find it featured a lot of my products. Frankincense is one the best oils for helping the body to repair DNA (aka supporting anti-ageing, I mean who doesn't want to have skin that's nice and supple 😉).
But, frankincense is also amazing for digestion as well as immune support, and its aroma is also a powerful tool for meditation helping you to move into a mediative state and connect to the divine.
3. The aromas balance your vibrational frequency

Everything has a vibrational frequency, they just vibrate at different rates, unless of course you're dead then there is no frequency.
When we are out of harmony with our natural frequency, it can greatly impact our heath physically, mentally and emotionally. This disharmony can be caused by stress, anxiety, poor diet, lack of exercise, not enough sleep, trauma the list goes on.
Essential oils have a high vibration frequency (one of the highest is Rose essential oil it tests in at 320 Hertz).
So applying oils, and smelling essential oils means that you are raising your frequency with every exposure.

4. They are multi faceted
The amazing thing about essential oils is they have a very large number of constituents that make up the oil, and each constituent will have a different impact on the body. This means that the body has a library of things it can use from that essential oil to help bring it back into harmony.
For example we know that lavender essential oil is very good for supporting the skin to repair after a burn. But it is also relaxing, and in large amounts can actually be stimulating.

Essential oils and your body talk to each other using a language that we can't fully understand, but we can certainly see the results!
There is much more geeky science I could talk about, but I'll hold myself back today 😉

One of my favourite things about bringing you my product range is that I know with each application your Catherine B product is working to help you feel more empowered, enhance your expression of your unique beauty and supporting you mentally, emotional and physically all at the same time.
And in this crazy world I know we can do with as much support as possible, some days more than others!!
